Mission statement

The Middletown Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC) is a duly chartered fire department and/or rescue squad in the State of Maryland, with facilities located in Middletown, Maryland. This organization serves the general area of the Middletown Valley. It is the mission of the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company to provide emergency services within its response area as follows: Fire suppression in all structures Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Extrication Harzardous Materials incidents at the operational level Confined space incidents at the awareness level Ice rescues Still water, swift water, and high angle rescues Trench rescues The Middletown Volunteer Fire Company will not take mitigating actions at any emergencies not covered within the scope of the organizational statement. The MVFC will respond to such incidents and take appropriate action to secure the area, deny entry and call for the appropiate resources trained to handle the givin emergency.

Ticket Sales for Our First Annual Benefit Concert

The Middletown Volunteer Fire Company First Annual Benefit Concert will be held on August 7, 2009, at the Great Frederick Fairgrounds. The concert will feature, Aaron Tippin, Confederate Railroad, and Kentucky Headhunters. The proceeds from this three hour concert will benefit the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company. The two seating classes are:

On Sunday morning, members loaded up in the apparatus and headed out to the Frederick County Training Center to conduct live burns.

Members finished off 4 burns (senerios), and practiced hose line advancement, VES (vent, enter, search), and other normal fire ground activities.

Thanks to Lt Flook, FF Loveless and FF Coffman for helping arrange the Training. Pictures to come....


 
Accident with intrapment in the 12-1 Box Area

On Thursday afternoon, the assignment was alerted for the reported vehicle accident with intrapment at the intersection of Route 40A and Urner Ave. in Braddock Heights.

The Rescue Engine (as the Rescue Squad w/3), Chief 7-1 (Loveless), and 3 members in POV responded along wiht E-122, A-129, Chief 12-1, Medic 20 and EMS 901.

Company 12 units arrived on the scene reporting 2 vehicles, 4 patients, and 1 trapped. As soon as 74 arrived, the vehicles were stabilized, and 2 dorrs and a B post was remonved to make access. All the patients were removed within 15 minutes, and transported to the local hospital. The Rescue Engine was back in service at 14:22 hours.

Rescue Engine to Interstate for double Intrapment

Early Wednesday morning, units were dispatched for the reported serious vehicle accident with people trapped on I-70 near the 46 mm.

Rescue Engine 74 (With 4) responded as the "RESCUE SQUAD" on the incident. Units from Company 12 (Braddock Heights) along with Chief 12-1 arrived confirming the dispatch information. Command was established and units responding in were given assignments. The units from Company 8 (Myersville) arrived and Command tasked them to work to extricate the victims.

As the Rescue Engine approached the scene, they asked for a assignment, and was advised to block traffic. RE-74 cleared soon after.


 
Middletown pulls mutiple units for first due accident

On Memorial Day, the Volunteer and Career staff were winding down the day's activities when the Vehicle accident assignment was sounded for Route 40 and Hollow Road.

The accident, which was reported serious brought A-78, A-79, the Rescue Engine (As the Rescue Squad), Engine 72 (As the Pumper) and the Chief with 16 personnel, with and additional 10 personnel that either went to the scene, or manned the Station.

Duty 3 arrived on the scene first reporting a two (2) vehicle accident with all victims out of the vehicles. A-78, the RE and the Chief arrived soon after, with the Chief establishing the Hollow Road Command.

After accessing the scene, it was found that the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene on foot, and the State and County Officers were trying to locate. The only other patient was transported by Medic 78 (with Medic 8 on board) to Washington County hospital. Once the patient was transported and the vehicles secured, units picked up and went in service.


 
   
   
First Due House Fire

As the Wagon was clearing a Fire Alarm in Glenbrook, Box Alarm 7-8 was sounded for the reported house fire at 7319 Countryside Drive. The Wagon with 4 marked up right after dispatch.

The Rescue Engine, Tanker and both Ambulances also responded with a total of 17 personnel. FD 500 (Leatherman) arrived first to report heavy fire to the rear of the Single family home, and fire in the attic. Command was established on the Alpha Side.

The Wagon, Rescue Engine and Tanker all arrived at the same time with 72 proceeding up the driveway and initiating fire attack thru the front door. The Rescue Engine laid in from the street, and that crew pulled a second line from 72, and advanced in to the C side. The Tanker also proceeded up the drive to be the nurse Tanker until water supply was established.

The interior crew found fire on the second floor and attic space. Both crews made quick work on the interior and exterior fires. E-122 arrived next and picked up 74's supply line. Their crew pulled a back up line for the interior crew.

As other units arrived on the scene, they were then rotated in to preform salvage and overhaul.

The FM's were called in, as well as the Utilities to assist. The units from Middletown were back in service at 14:52 hours.

Units on the scene - E-72, RE-74, T-7, A-78, A-79, Duty 12, E-122, Chief 8,  E-82, E-201, ET-204, A-209, T-1, TW-1, RE-11, Q-14, E-502, M-20, AU-4, Canteen 1, BC 901, Safety 901, and FD 500.

Washington County E-102 (Funkstown) transferred to Station 7.


 
   
   
Rescue Engine 74 on Vehicle Accident with door pop

On Saturday morning, units were dispatched for the vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Route 40A and Beechtree Drive in the 12-3 Box area.

Company 12 units along with Chief 12-1 arrived on the scene and canceled the Rescue Engine. The Rescue was then re-alerted back to the scene to open 1 door. When the Rescue arrived, the vehicle was stabilized, and the driver's door removed.

The RE cleared at 11:25 hours.


 
Middletown Units on Hazmat/Suicide incident in Myersville

On Friday morning, the Hazmat assignment was dispatched for in the area of 9702 Mount Tabor Rd. in the 8-6 area.

The Rescue engine, Ambulance, and Brush responded with a total of 6. RE-83 and Chief 8 arrived to find a vehicle with a deceesed person inside. along with a known hazardous material.

The Hazmat assignment was continued, and Command established. Units worked on the scene well into the afternoon to mitigate the situation. Apparently the victim in the vehicle left a note on the window of the vehicle stating the fact that hazardous materials were present.

The crews fro Middletown assisted with Patient removal and Decon of that person.

Brush 75 was the last Company 7 unit to clear at 15:05.


 
Vehicle Accident with confinement

On Thursday afernoon, units were dispatched for the vehcile accident ALS at Myersville Road and Harmony Road.

The Rescue Engine and Ambulance responded with 5 and arrived on the scene with a two(2) vehicle accident, with one(1) confined. Due to low staffing, additional units were dispatched to assist.

The crew from the Rescue Engine stabilized the vehicle and removed the "B" post to removed the patient. Once the extrication was complete, Command held the units from 7, and returned the rest.

The Rescue Engine cleared at 16:29 hours.

Chief 8 had the Route 17 Command.

Units on the scene - RE-74, A-78, RE-83, Chief 8, EMS 901, Medic 8.


 
Middletown Units on Building fire in Jefferson.

Just after Midnight, Box Alarm 20-1 was sounded for the Structure fire at the Jefferson Market at 3703 Jefferson Pike. The Tank Wagon was due on the initial Box. As units began to mark up, ECC dispatched the Safety Task Force, which brought Engine Company 7 as well.

The Chief, Engine and Tanker responded with 9 personnel. Ambulance 209 arrived on the scene with fire showing from the roof. As the Chief (Harne) approached the scene, he asked for the Tanker Task Force due to the non-hydrant area. Chief 7 arrived soon after E-201 and ET-204 and established the Jefferson Pike Command.

Crews from E-201, E-122 and RS-20 entered the Alpha side to attack the fire, but were pulled out due to the roof conditions. The crew from E-72 then entered the Delta side with a 2 1/2" and 1 3/4" lines to keep the fire from extending into the warehouse portion of the store.

Water Supply was established utilizing porta-tanks in front of ET-204, and Tankers used 2 different sites to fill. Once the fire was deemed under control, the FM's were able to get in and investigate. Once this was completed, E-502's CAF system was used to mop up.

The units from 7 cleared at 03:56 hours.


 
   
   
Accident on Main Street and Coblentz Road

On Tuesday afternoon, units from Middletown were alerted for the vehicle accident at the intersection of East Main and Coblentz. The Rescue Engine and Ambulance responded with 8, and arrived on the scene to find a 2 vehicle accident with 2 possible patients.

Crews packaged 1 patient, and was transported to FMH. The other victim was a refusal.

The Rescue was in service at 17:39.


 
   
   
Middletown Volunteer Fire Co. Golf Classic

The MVFC Annual Golf Classic was held on the 18th to benefit the Fire Company. Numerous teams started the shot gun start at 0900 hours to play 18 holes of good golf.

While playing, they were offered food and drinks on several holes, and also played additional contest on other holes. After their round, everyone headed back into the club house for a great meal, announcements, and door prizes.

The weather held out, and everyone had a great time.


 
   
   
Wagon, Ambulance and Chief on Braddock Heights House Fire

On Sunday afternoon, Box Alarm 12-3 was sounded for the reported house fire at 7108 Unakite Ct. Duty 3 arrived on the scene with fire showing from a 2 story single family.

The Wagon, Ambulance, Utility and Chief responded with a total of 11. E-72 arrived and laid in a second supply line into the court, and supplied the Tower Ladder from 1. The crews were first assigned Side C and the basement until Command requested the evacuation. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down by the Tower, crews went back in to mop up.

Chief 12-1 had the Command.

The units from Middletown cleared at 15:46.


 
   
   
B-75 Responds on it's first run

As members staffed the Station due to the incident on Washington Street, Company 7 was dispatched for the tree fire at 2915 Bidle Rd.

Brush 75 responded on it's first call since going into service. The Brush truck and Chief arrived on the scene with a small brush fire, which had extended into a nearby structure. As the brush fire was being knocked, the Chief requested E-72 to the scene to assist with mopping up inside the structure. The County FM was also called in to invesigate.

This structure involved was a barn that had previously been on fire a few years ago.

The units cleared at 17:24 hours.
